EXTERNAL WALL INSULATION SERVICES BASED IN BRISTOL

When you want to improve the energy performance of your property external wall insulation or EWI systems can be a very effective solution.

EWI is suitable for most types of property. Normally we will fix a layer of insulation to your external walls which we will cover in a reinforcing mesh and then add a special type of render.

You can choose from a range of textures such as pebbledash or brick effects which can be used alone or in a combination, according to your property’s style and design. In most cases, everything can be done without even entering your building.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does External Wall Insulation need planning permission?

In most cases, no — EWI on a standard residential property is usually considered permitted development. The exceptions are listed buildings and some conservation areas, where the change to the building's external appearance may need approval. We'll flag this during your survey if it's likely to apply.

Will EWI reduce the size of my rooms?

No. Because the insulation is fixed to the outside of the wall, it doesn't take up any internal space — unlike internal wall insulation, which does reduce room size slightly. This is one of the main reasons homeowners choose EWI over internal alternatives.

How long does External Wall Insulation take to install?

It depends on the size of the property and the extent of preparation needed, but most residential projects are completed within a few weeks. We'll give you a specific timeline once we've surveyed the property and agreed the scope of work.

Will I need scaffolding?

For most houses, yes — scaffolding (or in some cases a mobile access platform) is needed to safely reach upper walls. This is included in your quotation, so there are no surprise costs once work starts.

Can EWI be applied over damaged or cracked render?

Damaged or loose render usually needs to be removed and the wall prepared properly before insulation goes up — applying a new system over a failing surface risks the same problems reappearing. Our survey identifies any prep work needed and this is included in your quote.

What maintenance does an EWI finish need?

Very little. A well-installed system is designed to be weatherproof and low-maintenance, though like any external render, it's worth an occasional visual check for cracking or damage, particularly after severe weather.
